The Utah parks continue with our overnight stop at
Capital Reef National Park.
This park had lots of unusual rock formations.
Scenes from the Road photos 9 & 10 were taken here. Photo 10 shows us driving deep into Capitol Gorge and once the roadway ended we hiked the trail deeper into the gorge.
The further we went the more narrow and darker it got, this shot shows the bright sky up above the steep canyon walls.
We enjoyed driving off the main park road onto the scenic side ones, our campsite was located in an old orchard and mule deer were everywhere. As we went to sleep that night there were 7 deer surrounding us.

We drove through the
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and saw the narrow beginning of Lake Powell over the flooded village of Hite.
White Canyon was also a drive by for us.
Our next stop was
Natural Bridges National Monument. Sipapu is the largest of three natural bridges in White Canyon. The opening is 220 ft high and spans 268 ft (large enough for the dome of the US capitol to fit inside).
This is the Horsecollar ruin site located at NBNM...notice the two arched ledges towards the bottom of the canyon?
A switch to the zoom lens reveals two Anasazi kiva's dating from 1050 to 1300 A.D. The name Horsecollar comes from the shape of the doorways on this structure.
The site is known for being so well preserved as well as having two different architectural styles.
Kachina is "the middle bridge." As recently as June 1992, 4,000 tons of sandstone fell from the inside of the Kachina bridge enlarging the opening. The opening is 210 ft high and spans 204 ft.
Owachomo is the smallest and thinnest of the three natural bridges here and is commonly thought to be the oldest. The opening is 106 ft high and spans 180 ft. The hike down to this one had the least elevation change so this is the one we chose to hike to. The little guy in the center of the arch is J...

Wow. I'm thinking of changing my vacation plans for next year or the year after for this area. Just wonderful! Thank you for taking us along.
